In February 2025, the OIL STOP DIVISION OF AMPOL delivered 1,200 Feet (365 meters) of its SFB
Oil Spill Containment boom along with a trailer-mounted hydraulic boom reel to a customer in
South Louisiana for use in and around their petroleum storage facility. The client gave it a “Five-
Star” rating based on quality, operation, being “exactly what we wanted.”
The Solid Flotation Boom (SFB) was custom-made using heavy-duty polyurethane material and
internal solid polyethylene foam flotation with short length floats to better comply with effects of
winding onto the spool. The boom reel and trailer were fabricated from marine-grade aluminum. A
diesel-powered hydraulic power pack is mounted on the trailer to power the reel. A special feature
is a chain-driven, hydraulic controlled level winder for safely winding the boom onto the spool
without personnel in the zone between the reel and the water. Another feature is an extendable
control panel that allows the operator to control the reel’s speed and direction from a safe distance,
while providing a better view of the operation.
