AMPOL to cosponsor spill response school

AMPOL CEO Kirk Headley is proud to announce a joint venture with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Marine Survival Training School and The Response Group, to offer a 40-hour spill response training school.

The partnership was finalized in February and an industry day will be held in the coming weeks to showcase this premier emergency response education resource. Classes will be held at the MSTS campus near the Acadiana Regional Airport and will be offered monthly. A class can be scheduled at any time if needed as long as there will be 10 participants in the group.

The school will feature instruction on ICS training levels 100, 200 and 300, containment protection in sensitive areas, clean up, recovery, transport, storage and disposal. Job safety and environmental analysis also will be covered in depth, as will GIS technology, boat operations, air sampling, and scat team operations.

Ronald Eskind named AMPOL safety employee of the month

As part of a new AMPOL safety initiative, "I Am Goal Zero,Ē Ronald Eskind has been named AMPOLís safety employee of the month for February.

A long-time AMPOL employee, Eskind is a stellar example of an employee who demonstrates a commitment to safety policies, rules and regulations on a daily basis.

"Ronald maintains a high standard for safety not only for himself, but for his fellow coworkers as well,Ē said AMPOL Corporate Safety Director Stephen Thubron. "He consistently participates in our behavior based safety program working to eliminate potentially harmful situations. He does all this while maintaining a great attitude and he is a pleasure to work with.Ē

AMPOL CEO Kirk Headley said Eskind epitomizes the attitude toward safety shared by the entire company.

New inventory expands capability

AMPOL is consistently acquiring new equipment to expand the services it offers to its clients. In February, AMPOL purchased a new trailer capable of hauling roll off dumpsters weighing as much as seven tons.

This new piece of equipment will mean that AMPOL can haul waste promptly and efficiently for its customers. It is equipped with a diesel engine for hydraulic power, which eliminates the need for a truck-mounted hydraulic pump. Also featured are self-engaging locks for added safety, and hydraulically-operated hooks for additional security for the entire load.

AMPOL vessels stand ready for deployment

AMPOLís response equipment has grown to include more than 50 vessels staged in strategic locations along the Gulf Coast. These vessels stand ready to respond to customer needs up to 200 miles offshore.

AMPOLís fleet is capable of offshore rig support, offshore cleaning operations, commercial diving operations, oil spill skimmer recovery operations and general utility services.

NORM yard remains busy

Since its acquisition in December, AMPOLís NORM yard in Bayou Vista, La., continues to complete large-scale projects daily.

Facility Manager Bo Sanner said February was busy with several projects for major oil and gas companies. Projects included cleaning production vessels and lance slab cleaning on large quantities of tubing.

Crews at AMPOLís NORM facility routinely use high-pressure pumps, lance systems, cutting torches, rosebud torches and needle guns to expose and remove NORM. The facility features five-acres of dockside space to unload boats, and a large unloading zone for trucks. The strategic Bayou Vista location allows for immediate access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Beaumont office opens for business

The newest AMPOL location in Beaumont, Texas is now open for business. The facility houses a large inventory of spill response, industrial services, survey, remediation and abatement equipment. The facility expands AMPOLís rapid response capability even further than before to meet the needs of its customers.

Environmental services industry veteran Tony Waldrop has been named the facility and operations manager. Waldrop brings to AMPOL more than 20 years of emergency response and remediation experience.

"AMPOL is going to do great things in Texas,Ē Waldrop said. "I am very excited about being given this opportunity to grow with one of the industryís best environmental contractors.Ē

Jarreau promoted to insulation manager

Larry Jarreau has been promoted to division manager to head AMPOLís insulation services sector based out of its New Iberia, La. headquarters. Jarreau brings more than 35 years of industry experience to his new role.

Jarreau will lead AMPOLís experienced and highly-qualified insulation teams on both onshore and offshore applications. AMPOLís crews are available for 24-hour response to provide fast and reliable job completion times. With a large insulation inventory, crews are able to pre-fabricate core elements for projects from within AMPOLís insulation facility.
